What happens when an underdog baller from Flint ends up playing for one of the biggest teams in the NBA?
They set themselves up to be an NBA and Lakers icon that’s what!
Kuzma was selected with the 27th pick in the 2017 NBA draft by the Nets. But by fate in a draft-day trade, he was dealt along with main man at the time Brook Lopez to the Lakers in exchange for D'Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov (remember that guy?) before the draft. Kuzma at the time was projected to go in the second round or undrafted (thank the Lakers Gods he wasn’t). On July 3, 2017, he signed his rookie contract with the LA Lakers.
During the seven out of eight games he played for the Lakers (starting in only six of the games) in the NBA Summer League, Kuzma led by example. Leading the way with points scored he became a force all the way through the tournament. He then gained his first glory as a rookie and was named to the All-Summer League Second Team. However proving he was the real deal didn’t stop there as he was named the Summer League Championship Game MVP after recording a double-double of 30 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Portland in the championship match.
Ready to make his NBA appearance he trained hard with the drive to be the best player he knew he could be and on November 3rd 2017 in his first game as a starter he shot the lights out to gain his first ever double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds in a win over wait for it...the Brooklyn Nets. The team that traded his pick and I'm not the only Laker fan that is glad they did.
October 22, 2018 was a day I will always remember. On that day Kuz scored a season-high 37 points against the Spurs. He then went on to top that when he scored a career-high 41 points against the Pistons which lead to a win.
So it was no surprise when he was selected again for the Rising Stars game. This time he had a point to prove and he did just that and earned the crown after scoring a game-high 35 points.
With the Davis scandal during the backend of the season that shook the locker room like a hurricane, a lot of players hung their heads and who wouldn’t after being thrown on the block like useless pieces of a puzzle. Still Kuz didn’t let it get to him and he continued to play the game he loved. Players like this don’t come around often in the modern business that is the NBA. I know I would love for him to earn a jersey being raised in the Staples Centre and with big Rob from the front office reassuring him that he is this team’s future and he wouldn’t be traded unless it was for one of the top three players in the NBA (is one of them Anthony Davis? (Tim)) the odds and the future looks bright for this soon to be Laker legend. DAN STOCKER.

#PoetsCorner THE LAKE SHOW REDEMPTION
Well our regular season came to a close and eight teams from the West compete for the gold. We find ourselves missing the playoffs for the sixth season in a row as a lot of fans will hang their heads, but when your blood is purple and gold our team will never be dead.
We all thought (myself included) we would make the top eight this year at the start of the season. Hell I even said to my good friend (what up Tim! (what up Stock!))) we could reach the finals. Now I know what your thinking I have no clue, but Basketball the greatest game ever played can surprise you and after our game at Christmas we stood in a position well on our way. But then the plague of injuries struck our team like a dunk from Zion Williamson down. And just when we thought it couldn’t get worse, Magic flipped the locker room upside down in the A.Davis trade talk, but well karma is indeed a bitch (thanks for nothing Magic).
Now the lastest is we decided to let our coach go after three years. All I can say to that is good luck Luke and thank you. The blame can't all be put on him so I really do wish him all the best.
So what happens now? Well rumors are flying about possible coaches and free agency, but our main focus should be the draft and making that 2% chance for the first pick turn into something more.
As for they players we have Kuz, McGee and KCP really stood out for me this season as well as the call ups from South Bay (pro contracts are coming in the post boys). Of course King James has spoke out and promised us a better him next season and with a few additions from the free agency (Kyrie....just saying), there is no reason why we cant finish in the top eight next season.
I am gonna finish off here by saying no matter how much bad times come our way I don't speak alone when I preach I am Lakers 'till my dying day. Lets hit the ground running next season. It's time for the Lake Show Redemption. DAN STOCKER.

#PoetsCorner '6 Things To Take From The 6'
LOOK I’ve got to say after last nights game I wasn’t disappointed with the way we played. I mean bear in mind the Raptors could win in it all this season, we actually gave them a game. The scores were close from start to finish like a horse race and times it was like a game of H.O.R.S.E. was going on as both teams had an answer for the other.
With that in mind here is six things I think we can take from our game in The 6:
1# WE GAVE THEM A GAME! I mean I know it's not the result any Laker fan wanted, but in the place where we are right now coming to the end of the regular season it was good to see us actually playing good basketball. Again it just shows we can play well I mean who knows maybe the Weak Show can become the Lake Show again. Stranger Things have happened like LeBron playing well again and laying off the wine.
2# LINSANITY LIVES ON! I remember when the scoring and assist phenom signed with us a few years back from the Knicks. I honstley thought Lin plus Kobe in the backcourt would equal NBA Finals. But here's a life lesson for you people, things don’t always go how you expect them to and for the Lakers that no exception. Case and point this current NBA Season. That being said however Lin seem to being performing like the player I thought he could be and is know a key piece to the Raptors team.
3# GASOL MAKING IN RAIN! Some people might not know this but back before he was in the NBA the Lakers had the rights to Marc Gasol. Though they were traded away (Magic were you visiting the front office that day?). We did end up with his older brother Pau and he went on to help us win back to back championships (the famous 2 PEET). Last night though I was amazed to see Gasol making it rain and shooting from beyond the arc. He was a killer and it just makes me think yet another player we let slip through out fingers.
4# OPEN THREES, NOT IN L.A.! Even though we played well we still remain the worst team in the league when it comes to open look 3 point shots. Reggie, I told you to leave those bricks in the Windy City. I mean this is a fact people. But then again does it matter? Well all I'm going to say is open look shots should be getting drained. Look why do you think Golden State are where they are? It'st not all down to the snake who could be slithering to New York.
5# KAWHI LEONARD KING OF THE 6: There is no question the Raptors getting Leonard is the reason they are where they are. He is leading that team to the promised land and although he has been linked with us in the offseason, I really think its best for him to stay right where he is and build a legacy there. Could the Raptors be the new Golden State?
6# A NEW FOR US! Tonight we head to the Motor City to play the Pistons and honestly if we play with this energy I really think we will leave 8 Mile road with a W. It's true nothing is certain but I believe the odds are actually in our favour for once. LETS GO LAKE SHOW. DAN STOCKER.

#PoetsCorner 'L.A. Bull Fighters & The Return Of The King Kuz
(For those that don’t know me I go by the name Raw Poet. Other than writing records and producing music my other love is...well read on and you will understand. Here is my new regular column for #LakeShowView 'Poets Corner')
LOOK I thought our losing streak would never end, but as my team like to do they shock me with a performance worthy (clap) of a playoff seed. There must have been something in the wine in Chicago as LeBron lead the way with 31 points, followed by KCP with big numbers (Tim, I always liked that guy). As well as the return of the man, the myth, the mania himself Kyle Kuzma, who added 21 points in his first game back after his injury. Though we were down at halftime LeBron must have popped the wine, as it was a different Lakers team that came out for the second half . Let’s not forget the standing ovation the real Ingram got as he returned on a 10 day deal. Why we don’t just sign him properly to a long term deal I will never know. The fans love him and he loves the Lakers. Speaking of players that love to wear the purple and gold Reggie Bullock has made it public that he wants to re-sign with the Lakers in the offseason. And you know what? Even though he shoots that many bricks he could build his own house, I would love him to re-sign because he loves our team and his energy and team camaraderie is something we have been missing this season. However with the front office being the way it is I am trying to stay positive that Magic does the right thing on this one. But then again there is more chance of us getting a two-peat in the next four years than Magic actually doing what is best for our team, just saying.
Next up we play the Rapters on Friday in Toronto. They are the best team on the East Coast and it is going to be a challenge to say the least. But honestly if we play like we did in the second half and Reggie leaves his bricks in Chicago I think we can give them a decent game.
One of the big signing rumours has been over the Rapters main man Kawhi Leonard who has been linked with the Lakers. But since then it has been reported that he has said he doesn’t what to play with LeBron (shock there). So I'm going leave this by just saying it’s was great even if only for one half to see us play like the Lake Show again. DAN STOCKER.

#PoetsCorner 'South Bay Lakers And The Road To Zion'
(For those that don’t know me I go by the name Raw Poet. Other than writing records and producing music my other love is...well read on and you will understand. Here is my new regular column for #LakeShowView 'Poets Corner')
LOOK there is one fixture in the NBA that means the same, if not more than a Game 7 playoff final. And that's when we play the dirty Boston Celtics. Now "hate" is such a strong word...well in my case it’s too weak of a word to describe my hatred for that team. And after taking the victory on their home court it was time for them to face us in LA on our home turf and to my disgust they came away with the win (Karma, really don’t like that girl). So as you could imagine I was fuming! Yet again I stayed up to watch us lose another game and to THEM! I mean it’s safe to say I went off more than LeBron did to J.R. Smith when he couldn’t read the shot clock. WHAT TIME IS IT? I thought it was game time.
However we didn’t play terrible, it just wasn’t our night. And what stood out like LeBron's impression of James Harden on defence was the effort and energy of our young players from the G League. As well as our 25th pick in the Draft, Moritz Wagner. Who recorded a career high of 22 points as a Starter. Though he wasn’t alone. Due to injuries, players from our G League team had to be called up to the main roster. And well let’s just say they gave the regulars a run for there money, showing great energy and hustle. There where moments I was like "Ingram who?" and I ain't talking about Andre? (I'm just praying Ingram gets well soon). Speaking of Brandon, I think Johnathan Williams who played 29 minutes and recorded a career high of 19 points made a statement that he could play in the main team at Small Forward. His hustle was just on another level and I see a bright future as long as we can keep him. I mean I just hope he isn’t another Devin Ebanks or Thomas Bryant. This leads me to my next point now that we have given up on this season I think it makes real sense to add to oue young core of players we have and build for the future. I mean it says a lot when our G League players are fighting an up hill battle just to get minutes within the main roster. I'm not coach Walton (I'm Coach Poet) but passion and hunger like they were showing would make them key players in my eyes. All season that’s what we have been missing, especially after the Davis trade drama. So when all these one year deals of our current players run out why not give some South Bay boys there shot and then look to get the next big thing fresh out of college. It’s a marathon not a sprint and we are moving at a snail’s pace despite Magic efforts in the front office.
Zion Williamson, the 18 year old two way Forward for the Duke Blue Devils is predicted to get drafted round one, pick one in the Draft this offseason, so it make sense for us to move some players around and try and get that first pick. His energy and physical presence on the court is a missing Randle piece that any Western Conference team would kill for. I mean the only way to describe this guy is he is like a freight train roaring in to the station when he drives to the basket and nearly tears the rim off! Question is will or can the Lakers make that train stop in LA? DAN STOCKER.

#PoetsCorner 'The Fall Without The Rise, The King's Demise'
(For those that don’t know me I go by the name Raw Poet. Other than writing records and producing music my other love is...well read on and you will understand. Here is my new regular column for #LakeShowView 'Poets Corner')
Look, where I'm from your either a football fan (Soccer) or rugby (American Football). But for a 11 year old kid when an American Basketball coach came in to my high school and introduced me to the greatest game ever played I was hooked. I mean it was love at first swish. I chose to follow the LA Lakers as it was the only team I was familiar with. 16 years later after struggles, nearly losing one, if not the best basketball player of all time, I witnessed us win to championship back to back (2Peat). Then to see us fall and become a non playoff team as we are now know.
See Basketball is my life and Lakers are and will forever be my love. Staying up 'till the early hours to watch every Laker game, having no sleep, that has become the norm for me and I would never change that. However this season has got to be one of the most tragic I have seen, so as I write this I ask myself what has made this so. I mean we have spent the last 3 or 4 years drafting young players to build the new look Lakers or so I thought. As in the off-season we let one of the best physical Power Forwards leave so we could make room for an aged wine player LeBron James, as well as trading Russell because someone in the front office didn’t think he was a leader. Though it’s Brooklyn that now have the last laugh on that one, singing thank you Lakers chants. But ok, we still have a list of young names on our team ready and showing growth, so it make sense to put them all up in a trade for one player who LeBron wanted to play with right? WRONG! Since then the team has not been the same I mean would you be if you worked your butt off only to be told your dispensable? I wouldn't be and sure some fan can point the finger at our coach Luke Walton and maybe he aint the man for the job. But I point my finger at the front office and LeBron James. The STD that is spreading through the locker room. He did it in Cleveland and now he is doing it in LA. It’s all dummy spitting and "I want, I want." Didn’t your mum ever tell you LeBron, "I want" never gets.
So I come to this point in the season were I stay up to watch a team I love play all over the show, not Lake Show Basketball and honestly it sickens me. I now just want the season to be over, but I am glad LeBron is being put on limited minutes because now it’s time for the young core to step up when they are fit again. The question I will leave you with is, should they step up? I mean would you if the front office was so willing to get rid of all of them? DAN STOCKER.

#TheLeBronSeries L.A. KING
King Of The Hollywood Hills.
By TIM DAVID HARVEY
"Make sure he doesn't get Zydrunas Ilgauskas"! No disrespect Zee. You're one of the greatest bigs of our generation. But I got to touch the hem of the garment of the chosen one. It's 15 years ago and my dad whose away on business in New York has put me on the phone with a customer in the NBA Store. He's running the floors trying to get a number 23 jersey in Cleveland wine and gold. You see some kid called LeBron has just become a Cavalier and this sought after James jersey may be the most wanted since...well another 23, Jordan. Or at least a 24 Kobe. Who knows what this teenager will do. The champagne he will drink. The decisions he will make. The schools he'll build. How valuable he'll really be. He's just a kid from Akron, Ohio. But I'm just one the same age from a small seaside town in England, a train ride away from where The Beatles were born. I got to have a piece of history. Fast forward a decade and a half later to this summer and this writer is on vacation in Hong Kong, pre-ordering a number 23 purple and gold jersey, trimmed like Showtime in sunday white. Waiting for me when I come home. I don't need to youtube the unboxing. Like Tom Hanks talking about his wife in 'Saving Private Ryan', this moments just for me. Wish came true like the right lapel. He's just done it like Nike and left. The seams finally make it seem real. And on the other side of his beloved since age 11, '96 class of Eddie Jones and Nick Van-Exel pre-Shaq and Kobe Lakers, the name reads James.
Block. Missed shot. Buzzer. Love embraces. Red eyes. Hit the deck. You did it. Vows are vows. Two Summers ago. It's gone past half-three in the morning but on the other side of the water "Believeland", Cleveland is awake. Have you ever seen Ohio rise? As this writer is up all night in his living room with a special someone watching LeBron James bring the championship back home just like he said he would. Reversing decisions and all the hate that comes with this type of wrote off talent. But you can't erase engraving, no matter how Leonardo long it takes. Everyone gets their chance for 'Revenant' revenge. You just got to claw that bear. A lion would. That, or more likely the beautiful girl is why I'm up this late, or early with work the next day. Because you only get this type of moment once in your life. And I aint even a Cavalier. But tonight I'm all in for Cleveland. All for one and one for all. And not just because my Lakers are never getting past those Steph Curry with the shot Golden State Warriors, who in just a few weeks in second place is the first loser, runner up reaction will add the second best player in the league, Kevin Durant to spell dynasty. And don't scoff but I aint one for League Pass. We're like six or seven hours ahead of the U.S. over here in the U.K. So your evenings don't even get started for us until way after the mid-nite hour. And I work minimum wage...what else did you expect I'm a writer?! And I'm not going to pay hundreds of dollars for something I can't even watch without the outcome being either spoiled on Twitter the next day like 'Game Of Thrones'. Or resulting in me being fired for being a no show like the only other Laker fan I know in this town (Just playing. You're still the man Stock. Just checking you're reading). Besides I got Netflix. But still I'll pay for this one. There I was lying on the floor, she got the couch. Running around in circles wooping like Homer Simpson when Mr. Burns told him he could have free health care or something of that nature. You don't want to miss your "where were you when" place in history. That's why I booked tickets for two games this November for the King's debut in La La Lebronland for what was the Lonzo Angeles Lakers even before I booked my flights that didn't even cost half as much. The last time I saw him play live was as a rookie in Toronto. Heck, I did the same for Kobe's retirement tour. Number 23, number 24. Seven days a week, three hundred and sixty five times a year. At the risk of 'Kamikaze' sounding like an Eminem revival, this opportunity comes once in a lifetime. Lose yourself in this game. Like Pistons in Detroit it'll take you further than 8 miles.
2012, year of the Olympic Games in London. Both Team USA's are in the Giant city of Manchester about to play a tune up against the British home representative and my sister is on the phone from a bar in the Spinningfields area. "Get your a## over here now! You just missed two basketball players"! "Who"?! I replied a quarter in disbelief, three in hope they're still there. "LeRoy Jones and Karl Bryan"! She was a little worse for wear. A lot taking the p###! "LEBRON JAMES AND KOBE BRYANT" I replied like Monica off 'Friends' correcting Phoebe's French pronunciation of Nestle...the secret to her Grandma's cake recepie. "Your idols"! Well little does she know that's actually her. But still I can't believe it. You won't believe how much I was kicking myself like this was football. I missed Kobe and LeBron. By a couple of drinks. I wish I did. I'll say it again. I can't believe I missed them. Just like I can't believe there now both part of the same family franchise and fraternity. Los Angeles Lakers legends and hopefully banner worthy ring bearers and champions. Bleeding purple and living gold. The number 23 on media day that will likely meet the rafters like he did the press yesterday makes it more believeable, but still. The King in the same club as Big Game James. You know he's worthy. All the bigs like Shaq, Wilt, Mikan and Kareem. Not to mention the logo, the player he most resembles in Elgin and the actual Magic man who pulled a lion out the crown and brought him here for the President Johnson and Rob Lowe, Hollywood dream of Jeannie off the bus administration himself. Number 32 gives us the 33 year old leader of the best young Warrior like death line-up core. A nucleus that's only missing the cleared cap space of new Cavs, Jordan and junior. Who were switched in return for little running mate Isaiah Thomas who you know wasn't going to make the final cut like Michael K. Williams down the wire in 'Solo'. And sadly of course the power of Randle (but who knows maybe another Kentucky big from New Orleans will Pelican fly over next summer. Now a dub migrating Cousins can't relate). But this is us. LeBron's number 2, number 2 jersey and draft pick Lonzo Ball, who is set to blow aswell as set the table. The real rookie of the Lakers last year in the Kyle Kuzma steal who has bodied up this summer like Beyonce's 'Ape####' raps body beau Jay-Z in Paris' Louvre. And the Durant skinny on Brandon Ingram who LeBron simply tells us to "watch out" for because he's got next. Who better to take these kids to the promised land of the basketball bible than King? And then there's the misunderstood mob on the bench. Warrior champ McGee following former friend of the Miami Heat parade Michael Beasley. The cerebral Rajon Rondo whose vision will help guide Lonzo and whose a###hole competitivness matches only Kobe (who he sadly even after a Boston breakfast never got to get down with) and 'Bron who is starting to mirror the Mamba muse in the frank microphones of his press conferences. And who could forget the huff and puff of wildcard Lance Stephenson as your and one?! This "dog" is about to blow the house down. Lend us your ears.
Why I love this game. I could count the ways like I was going to for a 'Why I Love' feature that would stretch across all my movie, music, travel and book blogs which I still may do one day when I get the time. I could tell you I loved it because of the greatest. My M.J. I'm sorry Mr. Jackson. Or because of the Lakers who I supported since 11 because my big sis did (told you she was my idol). As besides I couldn't just glory Jordan's Bulls and who knows who my closest geographical team was back then (Boston! Can you believe that?). Or because Shaq was the most entertaining man in all of Hollywood. Or number 24 was my 23 before this one. Or how I was dazzled by Earvin's true magic behind the back, Rabbit out the hat like no Blaine card could pull, play, cut or ace in the hole be my king of hearts. Or how Kareem now inspires me at the same age as his jersey more as a journalist and autobiography writer than he did as an all-time points leading player. And I think nothing sinks like the line of the sky-hook. Thank you for your 'Becoming' and 'Coach Wooden and Me' audio description Kindle company during the toughest times of my life away in China. Or Wilt's 100. Not to mention Bean's 81. Or how the symbol himself Jerry West showed me you could still fight for victory, despite being a victim of depression. Or the last lines of Elgin Baylor's signed autobiography, sitting next to an autographed photo framed by defensive specialist, Michael Cooper. Who I cut a rug with before one of Kobe's last dances. Or any of the jerseys hung in my room like rafter tributes. The good doctor. The Jordan Bullet repping how much his Washington term meant for the families of victims of 9/11 (look it up. If you don't know. Now you know. Now that was B.I.G. from the G.O.A.T.). Or anything to do with him and his game. The shot. The shrug. The crossover...on him. The answer. The step over. That I shouldn't love like how much I do the Boston Celtics. What's up Walt McCarty! So glad I met you in LAX. Big shot Bob. Rick Fox. John Salley. Brian Grant. Shake it 'till you make it champ. Or just about anything to do with the ball and basket. From here to overseas. Jordan to Drazen (Rest Peacefully). From the squeak of the sneakers, to the swish of the net, the only thing better is sex. I could go on. And I promise I will in longform one day. But the real reason I love this game belongs to a kid in France whose name I'll never know. But he was rocking the basketball Jones number 6 purple and gold (that's how good a Laker he was before Kobe). So lets call him Eddie. Anyway my school trip classes coach is passing the tarmac of a local court near our hotel and I sitting on the one seat on its own not 'Forrest Gump' taken (bullying is a b####) look out the window to see Eddie trying to hang with this group of older kids scrimmaging. Only for him to be pushed away and mocked as he takes his ball home. A sorry sight. He's just a kid. He just wants to play. Until later that night I look out the hotel window at the end of the dining table eating alone to see this same kid, same jersey back on his own. Under the last lights of the court, bullies gone home, they can't hang, playing with the love for this game glee. And you know what? He makes every shot! Every. Shot! And THAT'S why I love this game. Not because of number 23 or number 23. But Eddie. Here's to ya. He's all of us. He's the game. Which can be played one on one. Or just one. As a matter of fact he's the chosen one too. He's LeBron. The one who did it all kingdom come. Put the game on his back and broad shoulders like the Carter. "Take off the blazer, loosen the tie. Superman is alive!" No matter who witnessed the burning of his robes, or those who tried to throw rocks at the throne like he tossed up chalk. No matter what they said. Remember how they all wanted to hang Tiger for something that just maybe all his peers do when no ones watching even before this toxic Twitter trend of a cancel culture? A master of history. A great of his game like Mike, or Ali who like all of us are human and have made mistakes and paid the price. Well now Woods was back on the fairway for 80 this Sunday gone, killing everyone after he put on that red shirt like 'Star Trek' it's all cheers. The ultimate victory. Like L.B.J. carrying his home to the throne after South Beach decisions (or how about how his choice redefined player power and rights that need to extend to the WNBA in this locked out league of collective bargaining over chips?) when they say he never could go home. And when did he hear that...when he was back home. And now going West like Kanye or a Pet Shop Boy, Hollywood is home now and another 23 can ball with Bugs and make another 'Space Jam' too. This ones for all the credits. Warrior Monstar's beware. You better get some more powers in that ball you all share. And this mogul like Magic has got more than money (or movies like Kobe) on his mind when he gets down to business. Shut up Trump and the cabinet like! He's going to do more than just dribble out the locker room. This trophy like Oscar is for the real walk of fame. All the way to the hall call. And in leading the next generation with a forever 21, Ronaldo like durability as a thirtysomething he can do this and more all on his own. Because he's the one like the kid from a small seaside town a train ticket from John, Paul, George and Ringo. The kid from France balling until the floodlights fade. Or just the kid from Akron. Just witness.
