LAKERS LATEST

BEIJING - AUGUST 20: Kobe Bryant #10 and Lebron James #6 of the United States look on from the sidelines during the men's basketball quarterfinal game against Australia at the Olympic Basketball Gymnasium during Day 12 of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games on August 20, 2008 in Beijing, China. The heirs to the Jordan throne, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James will always be linked. The two have been duking in out for years like Grant Hill and Jeff Mullins in practice, circa '94. Whether it be on the court playing or off the court in peoples debates. From MVP's to championships and puppet commercials to dual 'SLAM Presents' covers the heat has always been on. Since LeBron joined Miami this summer however it has cooled a little bit. The Lakers and Kobe have surprisingly become an under the radar outsider as James and co have all the hype and championship promise. So What does Kobe make off all this? Well for the most part he's remained Joe 'Jellybean's' wife on this one but today Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times has reported that Bryant has finally spoken out about the new Miami Heat big three of James, Wade and Bosh. Bresnahan reports that Kobe's first reaction was at the GM savvy of former Lakers player and coach Pat Riley, "Wow. How did Pat Riley pull that [expletive] off?" Bryant said (in so many words). Bryant is obviously looking forward to the challenge as he said to himself "I've got to get my knee healthy", but he is not fazed by it, or the team that has been created as he simply stated towards the new motivation "I don't need it". Good for Kobe treating every competitor the same whilst sitting on the fence and as for the Las Vegas odd makers who are making the Heat the favourites to win. You should take a look at the team that beat the Kings in your city last night. Kobe, Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom and Ron Artest anybody? That's a big four...and there's more. TIM DAVID HARVEY
