The Lake show are our 'Top Team Of 2010'. They've looked stronger than the rest throughout the year, even capping a mini-slump this week to close the year out. The Los Angeles Lakers once again got acquainted with Larry O'Brien as Phil Jackson's zen controlled an elite group of talent. G.O.C.T, 'Greatest Of Current Time', Kobe Bryant led the way and Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom got tougher in the frontcourt, if only we had more of Bynum. Artest overcame himself and everyone else to have his greatest year. The Lakers were also strong, late in the postseason thanks to their playoff, clutch king, Fisher. The number one team even got better in the Summer re-tooling with Matt Barnes and Steve Blake. Los Angeles is fully deserving of this position, besides they are the champions after all. The second returns for the votes for the 2011 All-Star Game have been announced. The games (which will be played in L.A.) votes are right now led by Laker, Kobe Bryant. The legendary shooting guard has a whopping 1,153,694 votes. Out West Oklahoma City Thunder small forward Kevin Durant is right behind Mamba with 735,521 votes. Filling out the rest of the west Chris Paul (585,690) leads all points, while 602,516 fans want Carmelo Anthony at the other forward spot. Although he probably can't play due to injury, Yao Ming is still the fans (Chinese especially) favourite for the centre position with 637,527. Still however Kobe's Laker teammate Andrew Bynum isn't far behind with 376,283 returns. Lake Show star's Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol are still in contention two. Out East Dwight Howard leads all centres with 988,572 votes, followed by his daddy Shaq with 410,663. Two-time All-Star MVP LeBron James, leads the forwards with 969,459 votes along with Boston's Kevin Garnett (712,555). LeBron's teammate Wade leads all guards in the east with 38,402 votes while Garnett's teammate Rajon Rondo is next with 777,310. LOS ANGELES LAKERS 103-88 NEW ORLEANS HORNETS



(GAME RECOGNISES GAME: '6, 7' hit man Lil' Wanye watches the 6, 7 Bryant do his thing against his New Orleans)

The Lakers where in need of a post new year victory to close out a bad end to 2010. They found resolution in a 103-88 win over the New Orleans Hornets last night. The Lakers where in need of a change and potential All-Star and sixth man of the year, Lamar Odom came off the bench scoring a team high 24. This is the first time since former player's Tierre Brown 27 in 2005 that a bench player has led the Lakers in scoring. After a week of frustration the Lake Show's bench was seen giggling like school children when Odom got fancy in the paint and then missed a finger roll, only to put it back home with a jam. Odom himself was in high spirits two saying, "It's funny that a play like that happens in New Orleans, basketball is almost like jazz, right?" It sure is and L.O. and L.A. made sweet music in N.O. Kobe Bryant also notched 20 while Odom's starter replacement Andrew Bynum had 18. Pau Gasol was yet again double trouble for the opposition with 11 and 12. "We played much better. We executed much better. Our defense did an excellent job," Kobe said, putting the past week, critics and write offs behind him and his whole team. TIM DAVID HARVEY.

LOS ANGELES LAKERS 82-97 SAN ANTONIO SPURS



Things are getting worse for the Lakers between Christmas and New Year. After hosting Miami in a turkey of a loss on December 25Th, the Lake Show fell to the San Antonio Spurs 97-82 last night. Tony Parker had 23 as the leagues best (27-4) dropped L.A. to a 20-11 record. Kobe dropped 21 but he also missed 13 straight shots en route to a 8-27 night. Bryant told press in his trademark short answers that he was mad at himself and Derek Fisher also had a hot head picking up a technical in the game for getting into it with San An's Richard Jefferson. The Lakers really aren't looking themselves right now. Meanwhile the Spurs have never looked better feeling like their old selves again. TIM DAVID HARVEY.

The Lake Show have assigned talented, rookie Devin Ebanks to the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA Development League. The team serves the Lakers and affiliate Clippers as the Los Angeles D-Fenders are inactive for this season. The 43rd pick, Ebanks has drawn comparisons to former Laker number 3, Trevor Ariza for his athletic and defensive talents. Still however, the swingman who is averaging 2.9 points and 1.5 rebounds in 6.4 minutes will look to develop more as he makes his NBDL league debut against the New Mexico Thunderbirds tomorrow night. LOS ANGELES LAKERS 80-96 MIAMI HEAT



It really is getting turbulent right now in Los Angeles. Up on the high def jumbo-tron you could see clearly that the Lakers curbed Larry David's enthusiasm. Him, Snoop Dogg, will.i.am, Sly Stallone and the rest of the Hollywood faithful may have felt like they had something better to do this Christmas after the Lake Show gave them a real turkey. Following a big win with his Cleveland Cavs last year, King James again made the defending champions look like paupers and pretenders to the throne as he led his new Miami Heat team to a 96-80 win. Get ready to throw those foam fingers! The Heat cooled off the Lakers behind James tripling up with, 27 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists and Bosh's double dose of 24 points and 13 rebounds. The one thing that was hot about the Lakers was Kobe's head a he was whistled for three technicals in as many quarters. Rules or no rules, he had a right to be angry though as the Lakers play was frustrating. Kobe and Gasol mustered 17 points each. Could this be the sign of things to come? A precursor to the finals maybe? Or are the Lakers merely just getting less merry with every Christmas day game? One this for sure the Lakers need to get back on course because the tidings are changing. Time for them to get right and resolute for the new year. TIM DAVID HARVEY.

TAKE 5-TOP LAKER MOMENTS OF 2010

1. MAKING IT A DOUBLE: Nothing quite says 'we did it' like winning the NBA championship after an up and down season, injuries, hard fought series' and an epic 7 game duel with the Boston Celtics. The Lake Show made it a double by successfully defending their 2009 NBA Championship. Trophy two was sweet as the Lakers are now spurred on for a three peat conclusion to the trilogy. Do back to backs make dynasty's? Just like Magic said in the 80's after his "Yeah, YEAH!"



2. THE FISH THAT KEEPS SAVING L.A.: Derek Fishers always been as good as Robert Horry was in the clutch but this year he's been as good as Kobe. Most recently he even switched it up, driving in for a game winning layup against the Clippers away at Staples last month. Still it was Derek's fourth quarter heroics in game 3 of the finals at the Celtics garden that defined his year and kept L.A. in a series they where losing grasp of...fast. This momentum changer steered the course for his team and kept hope alive. It felt like last year in Orlando all over again. Sure this guy isn't as quick as other guards but who in the league is clutch like him. He may not be as big a player as Kobe, Gasol or even Shaq but when it's all said and hung up, one things for sure this number 2 jersey has to be retired.



3. KOBE, KOBE. KOBE: Forget chanting 'M-V-P. M-V-P. M-V-P' saying Kobe's name three times is dominant enough. The guys just goes from strength to strength and ring to ring, all whilst playing through injury after injury. This year Kobe only hit seven buzzer beating, game winners, including one so epic against Miami that even Dywane Wade liked it. Not only that but Kobe became the Lakers all time leading scorer (and where talking about a team that the NBA all time leading scorer played for) and hit 26,000 points. Oh and he just happened to be his dominant, legendary self leading and even at times coaching his team to another championship, and they didn't give him the MVP! It's OK though he took something else.



4. DON'T SHOOT: During the fourth quarter of a pivotal, playoff game against the Phoenix Suns the ball was kicked out to Ron Artest who was at the elbow of the three point line. He spotted and set up but shot an awful shot. It was OK however as Gasol corralled the rebound only to fire it back out to Ron for a 'here buddy try again' moment. What could of been seen as a great moment ended up sounding like brickwork and from there nobody wanted Ron to shoot again. Still believe it or not that shot really counted as a fired up Ron wasn't about to let this affect his mental. In the weening seconds of overtime even the clutch Kobe missed a shot, but in game Ron charging like the Bull he once was to awkwardly but assuredly tip the ball in for the game winner and series clincher. Bet everyone was glad he shot now. Even in L.A.'s crucial Game 7 finals game with Boston Ron stole the show and even had the opportunity to shoot for three yet again. As everybody left him open and Phil Jackson's zen told him not to do it, Ron said "forget it" and shot anyway. "BOP"! In it went, now nobodies going to take this guy lightly again.



4. THE BEAUTIFUL GAME 7: Game 7 of he 2009/2010 finals against Boston was ugly...so ugly, somewhere Sam Cassell could be seen. Still however this hard fought, nail biting, cringe worthy, brick for basket affair had some real beauty to it. Hard work always looks good and the usual, flashy showtime Lake Show, showed that they could get down like the 80's Detroit Pistons. It was a tough, physical game that at times looked poor. Hey, even Artest and Pierce squaring up to each other looked a bit pathetic. Still when it was all said and done basketball's more passionate and battle worthy side was shown and amongst all the flash and YouTube highlight it was refreshing to see. The Lakers didn't win in style, they won with substance. This close shave was rough around the edges but still a good luck and with sweat soaked jerseys mixed with champagne and victory tears of joy, what's more beautiful then that? TIM DAVID HARVEY.

NUMBER 1: KOBE BRYANT: Leading his Los Angeles Lakers to a second straight NBA Championship Kobe Bryant once again cemented his status as best in the NBA, furthering his legend as one of the best ever to do it. Sure Kobe had a lot more help than usual but still number 24 looked more and more like number 23 in his dominance of the game. Kobe put on his fifth championship ring (one less than Jordan) but he couldn't even fit it on his swollen finger. Kobe didn't just carry his team he carried injury after injury as he played through the pain en route to comfortable victory. Where else can you put the best but number one? Said and done!



NUMBER 10: DEREK FISHER: Shouldn't this spot be reserved for Blake Griffin? John Wall? Someone else maybe? NAH! The greatest players of the year aren't necessary the youngest, biggest scorers or Youtube guys. Basically put the greatest players are winners and just like Vin Diesel said winning is winning and even if it isn't by miles boy does our tenth best player of the year win. The new Bobby Horry, Kobe's oldest NBA friend. The Fish that saved L.A. time and time again. Today's Mr. Clutch from 0.4 to two more championships in all the time that's left before the backboard goes red. Derek Fisher should be named as one of the best in any season. Derek Fisher should have his jersey retired. The guys even got an online campaign by fans going to get him in the All-Star game this year. Before you fill out a ballot Google this guy if you don't think he's deserving of that or this. Just when your done make sure you sign his name for February. TIM DAVID HARVEY.

LOS ANGELES LAKERS 79-89 MILWAUKEE BUCKS



The Milwaukee Bucks best player Brandon Jennings may have been out but they could afford to miss him in this one as they defeated the Lakers 89-79 at Staples. Without Jennings, little man Earl Boykins came up big with a season high 22 (including four dagger three pointers), while talented forward, John Salmons added 20 as the Bucks stopped the Lake Show. Still Kobe Bryant had 21 points before he was ejected for a second technical and Pau Gasol had 15 points and 11 rebounds yet again seeing double. The Lakers where scoreless for four minutes in the fourth as the Bucks galloped away on a 21-7 run which sealed the victory. Corey Maggette and Drew Gooden where also out for the Bucks but star Andrew Bogut made sure that was a no factor with 15 points. Right before Christmas Leonardo DiCaprio and Dr. Dre where on hand to watch their Los Angeles team fall. As the Hollywood brethren and the Lakers didn't get what they want Kobe left the court after being ejected, swearing and refusing to talk to reporters. Still Lamar Odom told us what we all knew, "We just didn't play well." TIM DAVID HARVEY.

Just when you thought it was safe for him to come off the injury list Andrew Bynum is suffering from some pain. During the Lakers win at Toronto on Sunday Bynum felt some pain in his knee whilst going in for a rebound. There where tweaks and tremors during the Toronto game and stiffness during practice. 'Drew told LA Times press that "They tell me it's just something I'm going to have to deal with." All of this uncertainty is too much for this injury prone centre to deal with but still the strong player is keeping a strong mind. The good news is there is no swelling in the knee and even better Bynums performance against the Raptors was healthy with a great 16 points and 7 rebounds in only 18 minutes. Almost notching a double, double in a quarter and a half is huge for any big man, especially this one. TIM DAVID HARVEY.

LOS ANGELES LAKERS 120-110 TORONTO RAPTORS



The Lake Show flew to the Air Canada Centre on Sunday as the Toronto Raptors hosted the Americans. Los Angeles beat the Canadians 120-110. Showing no signs of pinkie trouble Kobe took it easy, chilling out the Raptors with 20 points. The Mamba did snake in the Torontonians however as this was the Bosh-less Raptors first sellout of the year. From crossovers, to spin moves, to reverse layups, to dunks Kobe gave the crow exactly what they wanted...well sort of, more likely exactly what they came to see. The Raps where missing their star player Andrea Bargnani, who was out with a sore right ankle. Demar DeRozan had 23 points however, impressive as he also had to guard Kobe, a guy who's basketball camps DeRozan used to attend as a kid. Kobe remembers this and wouldn't let the young talent forget his teaching, punishing him on offence. “I’ve known him for a long time, since he’s been coming to my camps, things like that. It was nothing personal,” Kobe said of D. D. adding, “We were just playing. I love DeMar.” Kobe was feeling the love in Toronto two, it was Raptors however that got the cold reception off the hot Los Angeles team. TIM DAVID HARVEY.

LOS ANGELES LAKERS 93-81 PHILADELPHIA 76ERS



Philly honored their high school legend this week as Kobe Bryant took his Lake Show to the streets of Philadelphia for a 93-81 win. NFL Eagles quarterback Michael Vick was in attendance at the Wells Fargo Center for a great NBA game. Kobe started his time in Pennsylvania well being honored with a banner, however it ended badly as he hit a season low 9 points and sprained his pinkie finger. Still this was OK as most of the Lakers points came by the hands of Lamar Odom. The star hit a season high, 28 points on 11-for-18 from the field. Lamar won the game and also made his bid to become an All-Star for the first time in his career that much better. L.O. made his case clear, stating, "I feel like I'm the only guy who doesn't get mentioned as an All-Star, but gets mentioned as one of the league's best players. But it's something I would at least like to go for. Why not?" Gasol also had 19 points and 13 rebounds and it seems like there hasn't been a game this season were either Odom or Gasol haven't had a double, double. New Laker boys Barnes and Blake where instrumental in the fourth quarter, combining to hit the first 25 of that period as the Lakers ensured the 76ers moved to their beat. TIM DAVID HARVEY.

Kobe Bryant's been in the news a a lot over the last 24. The legend that skipped college for the pros is calling for high school basketball to improve following being honored by his old hallways of Lower Merion. After what Kobe saw fundamentally from some of the Spanish Basketball students he visited in Barcelona this preseason he has stressed that things must improve here, stating that some coaches "end up skating through things in AAU and go to college and still have all these weaknesses in their game". He added his displeasure "I don’t like it. I don’t like it. I think it’s a system thing we need to address in the United States". It's been a good, celebratory day for Kobe despite being criticized for striking an endorsement deal with a Turkish flight company. Kobe has also been named the top vote getter so far for the 2010 NBA All-Star Game that will be played in Los Angeles at his Lakers Staples Centre. Dwight Howard leads the East but Kobe leads the league with 722,682 votes and these are just the first returns.



New Laker forward/centre Joe Smith is excited to be in La, la land. As the 16 year veteran with a regular name but not a regular Joe career believes his window for a ring hasn't shut yet. The well travelled, 35 year old centre who was acquired for Sasha Vujacic has "lost count" of the 12 teams he has suited up for but has not lost sight of his one remaining goal, a championship. This is looking even more likely as the talented frontcourt player is with the two time defending champs the Lake Show looking for their three-peat. "I was excited when I got the phone call — kind of sad and excited," Smith says missing his old club but looking forward to what he can bring to the Lakers. "On the basketball court, (I'll bring) the same energy I always brought throughout my career," the hard worker told the Los Angeles Times. "Defending, rebounding the ball, knocking down shots." A strong player like Smith is exactly what the Lakers need as their quest to complete their Lord of The Rings trilogy gets even tougher. TIM DAVID HARVEY.

LOS ANGELES LAKERS 109-94 INDIANA PACERS



Reserve swingman, Devin Ebanks tweeted about how it was time for the Lakers to get revenge at the Consiceo Fieldhouse after the Pacers celebrated a win at Staples last week. The Lake Show showed a lot of character as well winning, 109-94. Kobe played the biggest part in this win with a Reggie Miller jersey number in points in front of the Indy faithful. 25 of these 31 came in the second half but it was in the first 24 that the Lakers built a lead that they would never relinquish. Pacers fans even chanted "KOBE, KOBE" and stayed to the end. Even though it was a blowout Pacer fans were willing to endure the traffic to witness a legend in rush hour. It wasn't just Kobe who maintained his top form. The relentless Pau Gasol had 28 while Lamar Odom ordered yet another double with 13 points and an incredible 17 rebounds. it's been a long time since these two where labelled soft. Will critics finally admit that the Lakers have a big three as well? This was the Lakers six win in seven games and now the team look less like the out of favour outfit they did the last time they met Indiana and more like the champions their supposed to be. LOS ANGELES LAKERS 103-89 WASHINGTON WIZARDS



After taking Chicago Bulls jokes from Barack Obama Monday the Lakers took apart the Washington Wizards 103-89 on Tuesday in the nations capital. The exclamation point of this game was Kobe Bryant's 24 points. The star had 16 in the third as the Lakers took control of the game right before the fourth quarter. A 17-2 run, spearheaded by 12 straight points from the Mamba was too much bite for D.C. to handle. Sasha Vujacic suited up for the last time for the Lakers but did not play in the victory. He wont return to LA at the end of this road trip after being traded to New Jersey for Joe Smith. One guy who did play was Andrew Bynum who returned to the floor and form with 7 points in 17 minutes. The Washington fans laughed at Kobe as he uncharacteristically missed three straight free throws, still it was Kobe who had the last laugh. After that against the Wizards three was the magic number for Kobe. He went all De La Soul, as he faded away for 3, hit another and then was fouled on a following attempt. After this time sinking all three free throws, Bryant had one more from downtown in D.C. showing the Verizon crowd that you do not laugh in the face of a doberman without getting bit. Pau Gasol added a stellar 16 points, 9 boards and 7 dimes from his bag of tricks, while Lamar Odom doubled up on 18 points and 10 rebounds and Shannon Brown added 16. John Wall again sat out of the game, (maybe he should of taken Kobe's advice about wearing Nike's) as he joined Yi Jianlian and Andray Blatche chilling on the pine. Nick Young had 21 points for the Wizards but that wasn't enough magic to contain Hollywood and the leagues premier team. TIM DAVID HARVEY.

Well, at least he got to meet the President one last time before he went. According to league sources ESPN have broke the story that Lakers guard Sasha Vujacic is off to the New Jersey Nets. Mr. Sharapova will join former teammate Jordan Farmar in New Jersey's backcourt but not until December 15Th due to league rules. This reported three way deal lands New Jersey's talented sophomore Terrence Williams with the Houston Rockets. Jersey will also get while the Lakers 2011 first-round pick and Houston's 2012 lottery-protected first pick. What does this leave the Lakers you ask? It leaves them with another big man they sorely need. Nets Power Forward/centre Joe Smith is apparently taking his experience, hard work and hustle to Hollywood. This is providing he passes a physical however. Joe will be a great veteran addition for a team who needs more presence in the post, plus the Lakers also save $7 million. Smithy will help spell Bynum and Gasol with Theo Ratliff but right now will be called upon a lot as everyone else recovers. Joe is a great addition but Sasha's hard work, hustle, talent and shot will be sorely missed. As the machine readys to join some new components the Lakers once again give up a talented, fan favorite guard, but they get tougher and seasoned with Joe Smith. The Los Angeles Lakers reunited with the Larry O'Brien trophy last summer so it was only right that the two time champions had a reunion with President Barack Obama as well. This time the setting wasn't so formal. Obama honored the Lakers away from the White House (maybe it needed a spring clean) and the sharp President even donned a tracksuit at one point. The charming basketball fan even bantered with the defending champs and now his Chicago Bulls are doing better (including beating the Lake Show this weekend as Obama noted, "they (the Lakers) witnessed first hand on Friday that my Bulls are showing some signs of life.") his one liners may have had some punch. As Barack congratulated Coach Jackson he said, "It was his fifth championship with the Lakers, which I should point out is still one behind the six he won with the Chicago Bulls,". Kobe Bryant, in the background responded, "not for long". Good one Mamba. Still as Barack Obama honored the Lakers for their championship win at a local Boys & Girls Club the mood was celebratory.



As part of the NBA Cares program the President and players helped children aged around 8 and 9 from the club prepare packages and write letters for wounded servicemen and women at Walter Reed Hospital and played games with them. "Now, I have to say that there is a long-standing tradition of welcoming championship sports teams to the White House," Mr. Obama told everyone. "But here's the thing: These guys have been there so often; they were just there last year". Obama also said that Bryant, Fisher and Jackson have been at the White House so much, "they could give tours". The President is no stranger to the Lakers. He played pickup games this Summer gone with Pau Gasol and Steve Blake. Gasol even set up a pick that led to Obama hitting the winning shot in one game. LOS ANGELES LAKERS 99-92 NEW JERSEY NETS



Up in the Tri-State area today the Lake Show were renewed in the Meadowlands with a 99-92 win over the New Jersey Nets. The Lakers bounced back during a hetic road trip after losing to the Chicago Bulls this weekend. The Lakers finished strong like Mr. Cee and ended the Nets in the fourth. Kobe led his Lakers with a 'Magic' 32 points (Earvin himself was sitting courtside as well) and 6 dimes while Lamar Odom followed with 22 and 7 off the glass. Pau Gasol still made it to the cup playing through injury. He served L.A. another double with 15 and 11. Not bad for a star playing on a bum hamsting, not bad at all... great in fact. It was Bryant and Odom however that took the Lakers away from the 87-87 deadlock. Braynt dished to Gasol and Odom for two respective dunks and then clutch classic, Derek Fisher gave up another chance for a winning play for the history books by finding Odom for three instead. You've got to love teamwork. Even Queen Latifah-sat in the crowd-couldnt reprise her role from 'Just Wright' and whip these Nets into shape. As much as she motivated. This ait like the movies. LOS ANGELES LAKERS 84-88 CHICAGO BULLS



(Pippen & Kobe trading Jackson or war stories?)

In what Phil Jackson dubbed as "definitely" the last time he'll coach at the United Centre the student defeated it's master. Legendary former Bulls and soon to be former Lake Show coach Jackson took his Lakers to Chicago not expecting a fuss and expecting a win. He didn't get much of either however. Kobe looked as good as MJ as usual with a Jordanesque 23 points, showing the windy city that the greatest evers inspiration still blows through these rafters. It was Derrick Rose (Chicago's first real bit of hope since Mike) that received the "MVP, MVP" chants however as his 29 points and 9 assists stampeded Chicago to a tightly fought 88-84 win over L.A. The Lakers late huddle and rally where not good enough for Chi-town's eight from downtown spearheaded by three, three's from Rose and hit man Kyle Korver each. Even another clutch 3 from Derek Fisher with 48 seconds to go in this 48 minute game wasn't enough (the Fish couldn't save L.A. for a second consecutive game). The Bulls snapped the twine and an eight game winning streak. Chicago's 26-13 bench point advantage on L.A. ensured that the Lakers stayed sat down. The Lakers 84 points where their lowest this year and another low point was this was the first time the Lakers have lost to Chicago in four years. It looks like tonight will be the last time the Zen master will flow through the wincy city of Chicago as a coach. The legendary Lakers and former Chicago Bull coach stated that today would be "definitely the last time" he coaches at the United Centre. Unless he's thinking of taking road trips off here's guessing this really is the last season for a coach who's team has found it's soul. At the moment Jackson isn't receiving the Jordan treatment, as he is not receiving parting gifts from each team like the other Chicago Bull legend did. Still who knows what will happen tonight and from now on now that it's looking more likely this will be the year Jax hangs up the dry erase board. The Los Angeles Times reports that the six time Bull ring winning coach told press, "I really don't spend a lot of time thinking about it, but yes, I anticipate this will be the last time I coach in this building." As Jackson prepares to silently walk away from the game whether he will leave or not is still a shaky subject. The mild mannered coach is playing everything down, "I'm not a very emotional guy," albeit with his trademark dry humor, "I always look up there, though, to make sure they haven't changed it and put it somewhere where they've hidden it." It looks like the Lakers could be getting invited around for a pickup game in Washington that they can't refuse. President Barack Obama will honor the Lake Show next week during their road trip that sees them play the Washington Wizards on Tuesday, and surely Barack will be on hand for that game as well in his favourite courtside seats. Obama honored the two time champions at the White House last year for their first 'chip (see photo above) but will do this years honoring during the Lakers appearance at a Boys and Girls club that the President will attend also. This will happen a day before the Wizards game but it is unsure whether Obama will lace them up and shoot hoops with the Lakers while watching that bust lip he received in a pickup game last week. Kobe, Gasol and Fisher where part of the current and former NBA superstars that Obama brought together for a private game in August and surely the hoops fan would love to go against Kobe yet again, triple teaming the legend with two of his presidential aids. Check the 'Lakers Latest' post below. What where we just saying about Derek Fisher? Well he's gone and put up a big, clutch play yet again. The Fish that saved L.A. has saved the day yet again. Derek beat the buzzer yet again but this time flipped the script by passing up a perimeter shot and flicking up a layup instead. "I assumed most guys would play me to stop and shoot, so I just wanted to try and leave a little hesitation in it," the faking Fisher told press. It worked just as well as the Lake Show overcame the Clippers 87-86 after spending most of the game behind the Clips. The game was still in the Clippers fingertip reach as Clipper centre DeAndre Jordan had a fingertip on Fisher's shot almost blocking it. "Had his fingernails been longer, he probably would have got to it," Derek said of DeAndre. In this battle of Los Angeles at the Staples Centre the Clips had the home team rights at the shared stadium and the court. They almost had the game as well behind Eric Gordon scored 24 points, Blake Griffin had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Still this was always a close clash Kobe had 24 Shannon Brown 16 and Pau had two 10's in points and rebounds. The Lakers were the visitors in their own house but they still made it their home ending their road losing streak after their travel weary trip last week. The court may have said the Clippers but if you look up at the banners in the rafters, you know it's the Lakers house.

PRESS PASSES: Extra news coming from the Lakers/Cippers Los Angeles derby. Impressive rookie big Derrick Caracter has really been stepping it up but he took too many steps last night as he injured his ankle. Now with Derrick joining veteran Ratliff on the injury list and with Gasol still banged up it's time for the Lakers to introduce another post presence. Well a 10 day contract or free agent signing could be useful but may not be needed as Andrew Bynum may return earlier than expected on this road trip. Bynum stated there was "No more pressure." for him to come back after Caracter's injury but still the player expects to take centre stage in Washington on Tuesday.TIM DAVID HARVEY.

Derek Fisher is one player that does more than what the history books say. His on court endeavours result more in his teams achievements (and with this team those achievements are normally pretty big). Simply put the guy deserves more shine (although he does get his due in Laker circles (but they better retire his jersey two)). After the Lakers home game against Washington Fish did make the NBA record books however. After Fish reeled in his 434Th consecutive regular-season game he became the NBA's active leader in consecutive games played. A big thing but not so much for an ironman of Derek's staure (speaking of which since everyones talking about who's next a statue would be nice two). He passed Portland's Andre Miller who's having a pretty disappointing week after being suspended a game (and that's where he lost it). Ever the professional team player Fisher's reactions to this feat where thankful, not cocky. Telling press, "There's a lot of days as an athlete where physically you shouldn't be out there. But when you remember those days when your parents or your uncle or grandmother or somebody that had to catch the bus, to get a ride, to get to work. You can't use a sore back, sore neck or sore ankle not to go and lace them up." The NBA player who holds the record for the most consecutive games played of all time was also a Laker. The legendary A.C. Green holds this honor until somebody, someday outplays him.



Ron Artest's continued incredible generosity and dedication to mental health awareness continues. After all he has said and devoted Ron did it big my auctioning off his championship ring. Well now he's going to do it even bigger. The All-Star guy really is all-time pledging to donate half of his $6.79 million salary this year. Now that really is something. His bucks don't stop there however, “I’m definitely considering the whole thing,” he says, “Or maybe 60 percent.” Ron, Ron is "very serious" about this thing which will come to plan next Summer. Ron stresses how he didn't come to L.A. for the money, especially with the Californian taxes he amusingly added. It's not about that for him, and as for his dedication to mental health, "The message is about the inspiration. That’s what I want, to inspire people. People will be like, ‘Wow. Why is he doing this? LOS ANGELES LAKERS 115-108 WASHINGTON WIZARDS



The Los Angeles Lakers are looking like their back to their old selves and Andrew Bynum isn't even back yet. After losing four games last week they've now won two this one. The Lakers topped the Wizards 115-108 at home. The Wizards three trick point guard pony of John Wall, Gilbert Arenas and Nick Young was not enough for the Lakers horsepower. John Wall was twice nice with 22 points and 14 assists but still that wasn't enough for the great play of Kobe Bryant and Lamar Odom for the Lakers. As it was the Lake Show who also doubled up for a blowout lead spurred on by the combined 35 points from Kobe who had 18 and Odom who had 17. Bryant finished off the Wiz with 32 points while Lamar added a 24 point insult to Washington's injury. It felt like 2006 again with this Jordan, Pippen like combo complimenting each other. The D.C team still had a chance cutting a deficit of 19 to 3 in the third behind the excellent play of their two rookie points but then the young guys hit the wall. The experienced, champion Lakers just had too much in the way. Now who's got next? TIM DAVID HARVEY

Aint nothing like good news. It's been the subject of ongoing Laker reports for months, for better or worse but for the first time in a long time things are looking up in regards to Andrew Bynum and his comeback. The centre started and completed his first full practice with the team since his knee injury way back in July. Now as for the feedback, "No pain, no symptoms," the star reported. Number 17 could look at a return as early as some point next week. Just in time for Christmas like first thought. What a great presence. The quietly confident player is remaining cautious however, "I just want to get a couple more practices in, keep working on timing and just come back." Bynum had been eager to exceed everyones expectations but now doesn't want to commit to a date just yet. Still the big man took part in a five on five scrimmage and looked healthy dunking a couple of times down the floor. 'Drew noted that his quickness was a little off a he still wasn't 100% but added that "That's just going to come with timing, that's going to come with more work in the weight room." So as the Lakers wait they will look forward to having Andrews 15 and 8 back. As this 23 year old continues to develop into a potential 20, 10 threat. "It's about time". Kobe Bryant couldn't be more right in reference to the statue plans for a fellow Lakers legend. From one shooting guard to another the Mamba recognises the clutches greatness. Why wouldn't he? If it wasn't for Jerry West, Kobe Bryant would be wearing teal and white instead of purple and gold and who knows what would have resulted there (am sure in some ways some of the same)? 'Mr. Clutch' himself has imprinted more than his likeness for the NBA's logo. He has also made many big plays for the Los Angeles Lakers. On and off the court.

There's George Mikan, Elgin Baylor, Wilt Chamberlain, Gail Goodrich, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, James Worthy, Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant for the Lakers alone and a whole host of NBA legends that have come and gone throughout the history of this great league but make no mistake one of the greatest ever to do this was Jerry West. He wore number 44, but even after that was retired and raised to the rafters Jerry was so much more than a gun slinger.

So why has it taken this long? Why is a man who is the silhouette of the associations logo a shadow of success? Why has it taken this long for a statue of Jerry West to be unveiled (I mean it hasn't even been built yet)? I know the Lakers have a lot of legends to immortalize and they've started off right (Magic, Chick) but why have other sports stars been honored in stone prior? I mean Oscar De La Hoya? He's great but come on! Before Jerry?



It's a good job the humble Jerry isn't one for individual honors and is used to waiting. I mean it took over a decade and a Wilt Chamberlain for the savvy guard to win his first and only ring and MVP trophy in 1972. Still this is no excuse. Jerry doesn't just embody the NBA he embodies the Lakers. After George Mikan in Minneapolis it was Jerry and Elgin Baylor that started things for Los Angeles. 10 years before Wilt, decades before Magic and Kareem and almost half a century before Shaq and the Kobe years. Along with Baylor, Jerry showed the NBA that the West had something to say and something to play.

West had offence, defence, hustle, vertical and shots in the clutch and from anywhere on the court (see, 1970 and Celtics, Boston). There where many points to why West was one of the best and when he retired he topped the Laker history books as the teams highest scorer before Kareem led the league (25,192). West was and is your prototype basketball player even for today in high shorts and 70's hair. That's why the original and greatest still looks great between red and blue on everybody's jersey.

West wasn't just a great player and owner, he was also a pretty decent coach. Sure he only made the Western Conference Finals once during his tenure (1977) but he led Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and the rest of the Lake Show to an impressive 145–101 record. It would have seemed odd that after a great start Jerry headed further upstairs until you realise what came next.

As the 80's came around Mr. West became a coaching dropout opting for the role as the Lakers General Manager. In this role Mr. Clutch became Mr. Craft as he built a team for the ages. Hollywood was waiting for the bigger picture and Jerry West premiered 'Showtime'. Bringing Magic, Worthy players and five gold championship rings. It was just like Christmas in sunny California.

Than deep into the 90's Jerry proved that lightening can indeed strike twice as thanks to his shrewd managing another dynasty reigned championships in Laker land.After building a nice squad around Nick Van Exel, Vlade Divac and coach Del Harris West went all Hollywood out in Los Angeles making major power moves. First he traded Vlade Divac for the draft rights of this kid called Kobe Bryant. Than he made a 'big' signing by bringing in Shaquille O' Neal and than he went even bigger and brought in six time champion coach Phil Jackson. The rest was NBA history. Once, twice, three times a champion and who knows what else could have happened if it wasn't for the death of a dynasty?




As Jerry moved from a Western powerhouse to lottery bound outfit he still prevailed in Memphis. He signed another coach of the year (Hubie Brown) and he did the real best with what he had with the Grizzlies. Since then for the Lakers their former player Mitch Kupchak has managed things very well, but there's just something about Jerry. West helped with the bringing up of Pau Gasol in Memphis, who now has been that extra championship ingredient for Los Angeles. Coincidence?

See Jerry, Jerry, Jerry has been great at three different roles in the NBA, legendary in fact. Sure the logo is an honor like no other and now that the Lakers have done a Spike Lee with the statue, the right thing has happened. West was more than just an incredible player (as if that wasn't enough). He has built more than one dynasty over the decades for the purple and gold, who else has done that (apart from Red for the Celtic green)? So he may have only achieved one ring as a player (which is great anyway) but he's amassed eight in the boardroom. Now there's one guy who can definitely cockily straighten his tie after a good day at the office. Either way when Jerry has suited up, (sweats or slacks) he's helped the Lakers look more than sharp. Mr. Clutch is the Frank Sinatra of the NBA, 'Mr. Success'. As a matter of fact he was and is still Mr. Lakers. Now there better be significant room for that statue. TIM DAVID HARVEY.

Los Angeles will be the city that holds the 2011 NBA All-Star Game but the Staples Centre will be unveiling more than the best players the NBA have to offer on that day. Another Lakers legend will join Magic Johnson and Chick Hearn and be immortalised in a statue. A statue of a sky hooking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar could join his former teammate outside of the arena one day but it will be on the logo, Jerry West who will finally be honored. "It's about time", Kobe Bryant said-a player that West brought in as a GM-proving that West has done much for the Lakers than just in his legendary playing days. West obviously appreciates this honor but is a little embarrassed, "I would love to have a bunch of the players I played with up there with me if that's going to be honored. That doesn't define who I am. Whoever decided to do this, I'm extremely grateful and I don't want to feel like I don't care. But it's a lot more about teams than individuals," 'Mr. Clutch' said. The 1969 MVP will always be with the Lakers and once February comes that will be even more literal. TIM DAVID HARVEY.

LOS ANGELES LAKERS 113-83 SACRAMENTO KINGS



There's no place like home. On their return to the Staples Centre the Lake Show clicked their heels and snapped a four game losing streak (their first since '07). The Lakers overcame their California counterparts the Sacramento Kings 118-83. The Lakers have been battling inconsistency and injuries later as has their superstar Kobe Bryant, but both looked back to their good, old self last night. Kobe especially dunking and shooting off balance en route to 22 points as he still gets back into game shape. Pau Gasol also showed his resilience shouldering 16 points in 27 minutes whilst carry a hamstring injury. Lamar Odom also had 16 points and 7 rebounds sharing frontcourt duties with the Spaniard. It was a much needed victory for L.A., Gasol stating that the key was that they "came out focused and we played aggressive from the first minute." This 32 point blowout was spearheaded by a first half 18 point break away by the team. Jason Thompson had 19 and Tyreke Evans added 15 for Sacto. As always Shannon Brown provided an instant spark of offence off the bench (12 points) and Steve Blake made sure Sacrmaento were out of charge by multiplying the Lakers lead with three, three's. The Lakers dethroned the Kings and also put themselves back up amongst the royalty of the NBA's elite. Critics will be silenced now. The real king has spoken. TIM DAVID HARVEY.

The Lakers are in a spot of trouble right now and could do with a roster filler to help. After the injuries to Andrew Bynum and Theo Ratliff and now the day to day, wear and tear to do it all Pau Gasol the Lakers are looking a bit thin up top like Greg Foster. So despite the great play of rising rookie Derrick Caracter the Lake Show are in need of a backup. Here's betting they wish they kept the reliable talents of Josh Powell and D.J. Mbenga now. As the Lakers look to shop around it's uncertain whether 10 day contracts or more guarantees will be offered. The rumour mills have been stirring however with a list of big man names that could be linked. Now Erik Dampier and Brian Skinner have inked contracts the free agent market for dependable backups is becoming smaller. Jake Voskuhl hasn't recorded a minute of burn in the NBA since the 08/09 campaign but he could fill the Lakers donut. Sacramento King's big men Cousins and Landry have also been linked but because of the two squads Californian rivalry don't expect a royal appointment. One potential trade has been rumoured since the market of players waiting for the phone to ring is a tad short of paint patrolmen. The Lakers could make a run for Indiana Pacers big man Jeff Foster But to acquire him they would probably have to give up the talents of tenacious guard Sasha Vujacic. For the sake of a couple weeks this may not be worth it but one things for sure the Lakers have expended their options in the frontcourt. TIM DAVID HARVEY.

Who says it doesn't rain in Southern California? Because right now it's pouring. The Lakers continue to drip with problems. After the Lake Show's fourth straight loss to Houston yesterday injuries to post players has now become the centre of attention. With Andrew Bynum and Theo Ratliff sitting on the bench with bum knees, double, double, All Star Pau Gasol has had to double up his workload. This extra sprain on the Spaniard has taken it's toll. It's taken it's toll so much that the teams second option has in fact strained his left hamstring. Los Angeles will have to list Pau as day to day while he recovers. Pau missed practice today and if he does in fact play over the next week he's going to have to be careful out there in the heavy paint. With the Lakers now looking like a Apple 'N' Spice up front they will also have to rely more on Lamar Odom (who is having an All-Star year and would probably be Sixth Man Of The Year if it wasn't for all these injuries) and impressive rookie Derrick Caracter. While now the idea about signing another player may get thrown around. Gasol recognises his increased workload has taken it's toll but for his team he only cares about helping them, "We're short-handed already. I just try to be out there as much as I can and do as much as I can. You don't want anything extremely bad to happen that will put you out, but you have to tough it out right now, suck it up and hopefully get a couple of guys back." Although this is another slice of bad news for L.A. it looks like it isn't as bad as it seems as Phil Jackson told press, "He's a pretty resilient player. We think he can play." LOS ANGELES LAKERS 99-109 HOUSTON ROCKETS



Laker fans really will be chanting 'Let's Go Lake Show' right now as the reigning NBA champions dropped their fourth straight loss at Houston amidst a rocky road trip. This is the first losing streak of this nature for last years leaders ever since April of 2007. The Houston Rockets were under power with injuries but that was no problem as they took the Lakers out the game 109-99. This loss and regular, uninventive media questions clearly got to Kobe who insists, "We're fine", adding, "Are we going to win a three-peat today? Probably not, but the **** is not played today." Coach Phil Jackson added, "Concern? It's way too early in the season, and we've got a long ways to go." Kevin Martin led Houston's takeoff with 22 points while Shane Battier had 17, 11 of which came in the final three minutes of regulation. Battier found his own three peat against the defending champions with a barrage of back to back three's which overcame their deficit of three to win the game. Both Shane and Kevin were vital for the Rockets in this win with many other stars grounded. Kobe paced the Lakers with 27 but came up just short on a clutch three point attempt. A season high of 25 points for Lamar Odom to go along with 11 rebounds was not enough, neither was Matt Barnes impressive 14 and 8. As the Lakers head back home they better check themselves at the Chick Hearn statue outside Staples and get out the refrigerator, otherwise were looking at a cold winter in California. LOS ANGELES LAKERS 96-98 MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES



The Lakers suffered their third straight loss last night as the Memphis Grizzlies overcame them by a basket, 98-96. Right now the Lakers team are one in dire straights and this brothers in arms battle between the Gasol boys ended with the younger brother standing up to his elder. Speaking of these guys this game marks only the second three game losing streak for the Lake Show after the Gasol trade (which actually involved both brothers, bet the Lakers wish they kept him now) in early 2008. Mike Conley paced the Grizz with a season high 28, 10 of which came in the crucial fourth. This moves his team to four wins at home and four wins out of five games overall. Memphis is sounding good again. Artest could of brought the game back to LA but had a clutch three blocked by Rudy Gay. The defensive king had nothing but praise for Gay's play "That was great execution. His close out was perfect ... He closed out, chopped his feet a little bit. Stayed low, didn't go totally for the head fake and recovered." Kobe led the whole floor with 29, Pau had 15 and 14 for yet another double while his brother had 10 for Memphis. Guess that 'Get back on track' marked on the white board in the Lakers dressing room won't be rubbed off yet. TIM DAVID HARVEY.
